Help me save my grafted crest

Post by zagoric »

I have a question about this graft I got a month ago.

I noticed today the stock looks awful and I'm not sure how to salvage.

It looks like rot, but if anything I've under watered it (once in the month+) since I bought it. Should I water and see if the stock comes back to life? Or was something already going on with the stock and that was why the scion was shooting out roots?

Thanks for any advise on what next steps I should take.

The stock looks dead. The scion is growing out roots as it's trying to root itself and get nutrients again. Well, the scion should be pretty easy to root at this point.

Thanks. Would you start it off in straight pumice or my usual mix which is equal parts pumice, gritty mix, DG, and organic.

Either one should work, looks like a Mammillaria sp. crest, which shouldn't be too picky. You could do the mic with a top cover of pumice as well
