Strange coloration

Post by zagoric »

Hello.

Can you tell me what is going on here? It looks like a yellow wax coating.

Corking. It is a minor (sometimes not-so-minor) skin scarring, usually concentrated towards the base of the plant. It can be caused by different things, but it basically indicates no-quite-perfect growing conditions. It is almost inevitable on older plants of some species, but you should take it as a hint that you could improve things. Don't go crazy though, what you see was probably caused by growing conditions many months ago.

It can be caused by pests, but your photos don't look like that. In England I'd suspect they got a bit chilly over winter, but maybe not in your case!

Thanks.

I've only had these for less than 6 months.

I'll see what causes corking and what I can (if anything) I can improve.
