hard black lumps

Post by sadhbh-rua »

hey there!
while moving some shelving today i knocked over a pot and noticed a cactus had some damage id forgotten about.
when i got the plant a few months ago it was in a pot of peat with 3 others and 2 turned out to have rot (no wonder they were so cheap), this one seemed to be the "okay-est" of the two survivors but it had very prominent and noticeable black nodules/scarring or something below the soil level.
the cactus and lumps have no squish to them, though the whole plant has that "im not rotting but im not as solid as i COULD be" feel to it still. the roots dont look any happier than the day i got them but they could just need more time, for now they can both go back to sharing a pot as theyre not doing much on their own.

so the questions are
what do you think it is? past rot thats recovered?
is it something i should worry about and is there anything i should be doing to help the plant(s) along?

bonus question : does anyone know the ID of these two cacti ? :D (the pot in the photo is 11cm wide for size)
