My moon cactus recently developed some sort of rotting at the base, I tried to cut off the mushy parts and see if it would get any better but sadly I had to throw it out. However, the pink top part was still healthy looking so I cut it off to see if I could grow something from it.
Is it possible to grow something from the top part? If I plant it in soil will something grow?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Sick Moon Cactus
I dont want to say no its impossible but I would not expect much. The so called moon cactus is a cultivar that lacks chlorophil so it cannot photosynthersize without the grafting stock which was nice and green. It may root if you put it on gravelly soil and keep dry but I doubt it would last long. You may wish to buy something like a myrtillocactus and grft it back on to that as a new stock. Check out the grafting section for loads of info on how to graft the plant.
