Interesting! I have done some experiments with micrografting schlumbergera russelliana areoles. Initial success was close to 100%, but the usual transfer from high humidity clean environment to a rooting container proved too much for a lot of the scions, as most of them had made a layer of new cell growth from the exposed cut surface, but that didn't prove sufficient for the difference in humidity. Of the 14 initial grafts, 13 took and one was attacked by fungus. Of the 13 that took, 11 died because of dehydration when transplanted. Planting them in potting soil that early happens because the stock is sending out roots, and if they root in the medium i have them healing on, root development will later be very poor.
