Acanthocereus Grafting questions.

Post by SageOfSilence »

I recently read you can use Acanthocereus Tetragonus as grafting stock and it's supposed to work just as well as Pereskiopsis with more natural scion growth.

I'm asking this because Pereskiopsis is so dang expensive but I have a small Acanthocereus cluster with 15-20 7ish" stems and some 20 more smaller stems.

Does anyone have experience using this species as grafting stock? Pros? Cons? I would like to use 1 or 2 of my smaller P. Erubescens seedlings to as an experiment. Would I need to take one of the Acanthocereus stems as a cutting and root it before starting the graft or could I just leave it in the pot as in and start the graft?

I don't have experience with it, but it's widely recommended. According to this site, it works well with any species of scion - http://www.kadasgarden.com/Cgraftingstocks.html
