Seed embryo grafting

Post by piyeron »

Anybody tried this yet? :) Neat technique, I'll take a few photos of a couple I did more than a week ago at a later time.

I grafted this one as an embryo (unsprouted seed!) 05-08-2016. I just soaked the seed in water for more than 24 hours then very(!) carefully removed part of the seedcoat, made a thin slice using a new razor blade and grafted as you would a tiny seedling. This is my second time doing this technique =) I can see this technique being extremely handy for very rare or precious seeds although one is limited by his eyesight and quality of tools he has on hand :-k

That is very cool! I have heard of this technique but never seen it done. I don't know that I could hold my hand steady enough to mess with an embryo of anything smaller than an avocad ha ha! ;)
Very nice

George, its quite hard to find documentation of this technique in the internet but all I managed to read basically indicated that it was indeed possible, so I gave it a try =)) Escobaria abdita seed is quite large (for a cactus seed) hence why it was what I used. Ill try progressively smaller seeds from here on out.

snarfie, do post your attempts when you get a chance to do so =D Goodluck!

I saw a video on youtube and tried to get more info. This is the only one coming up in google. I have a few extra seeds that cane with a purchase so I’ll definitely try this.
