Is this graft failing?

Post by engeizuki »

I grafted this echinocereus onto pereskiopsis about 4 months ago. It has been growing well, though a little slower than some of my other grafts. But now the scion has started growing a root. Is that a sign that the graft is failing? Should I degraft it and let it grow on its own roots, or is it fine to leave it on the rootstock?

If it's growing the graft probably took. Sometimes they just do weird things. But when it's growing roots it will probably be easy to degraft.

If it has its own roots, it will probably be alright to degraft and be well off on its own. It doesn't sound like a problem to leave it grafted though as long as it is growing on the stock.
