Grafted a bunch of small scions to Opuntia cacanapa, most are 2-3 months in the photos, grafted in late summer. Relatively new here, and wanted to share some photos.

Thanks snarfie. Getting some slow growth on them this winter in the greenhouse, but still waiting to see spring growth rates for the first time on most of these.

fantastic grafts..are you using opuntia engelmannii or opuntia ellisiana? I tried grafting on opuntia last fall when some of my cacti started to rot...with mixed success. Also have you noticed a difference when grafting on unrooted pads vs rooted pads?

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia cacanapa
Thanks luigonz. I am using what I think is Opuntia cacanapa 'Ellisiana'. I have a few grafts on pads of other random sp as well. Grafting to unrooted vs rooted may lose some rootstocks-w-graft in the rooting process, but doesn't seem to effect whether the graft takes or not. Pads root pretty well in post-graft treatment for me, but arguably it's safer to root first. Plump pads with scions about the same size as pad width work well, especially horizontal grafts. The photo below was a last-chance rescue last summer... hoping to see it take off this coming spring.luigonz wrote:fantastic grafts..are you using opuntia engelmannii or opuntia ellisiana? I have several Quiabentia scions at about 6 months grafted that all seem to be healthy but waiting for Spring to show any new growth.

Always something new to try. Sulcorebutia sp scions have been shown to induce flowering in Opuntia humifusa rootstocks, so I'll be interested to see if this proves true for other Opuntia sp.

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia cacanapa
Starting to see some new offsets on a few horizontal scions that had been staying still since grafting last fall.

A couple more starting to show new growth as spring approaches.

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia cacanapa
Doing some more Sulco grafting lately, as my S. rauschii grafts have been doing well on Opuntia since last year.
...and some grafts from last year...
Edit:
Finally seeing new growth on those Quiabentia scions.

Growth on Quiabentia and E davisii.
First flower bud on a R minuscula scion, 6 months grafted (fall-spring).

Sulcorebutia grafts are starting new growth, one month from grafting to unrooted pads.
And that Rebutia minuscula flowered.
