I started the seedling grafting from the beginning of last month for this season.
It has been continued and I have built numbers up.

Great job on the red flowering A. asterias. Do you think the seedlings in the same batch have a red flower?
What happens when the stock loses it's leaves? Does the growth of the scion slow down?

Yes I do, I think seedlings also will be red flowering.
Scions will reduce the growing speed significantly when stocks lost leaves.
Stocks will loose leaves 2nd winter in here and I degraft scions in following spring.

An asterias showing hanazono character was in flower in the afternoon today.
The color of the flower was red. I have tried to create this form.
24 seedlings have been grafted but only 1 shows the targeted form at moment.

I grafted 24 seedlings of Ariocarpus fissuratus v intermedius in 2004.
I found one of them was variegated in this afternoon.
I bought seeds of variegated intermedius and sowed in 2005.
Unfortunately I could not see any variegated cacti at all.
This one is 2nd generation, both parents were not variegated.

Very cool! I love how fuzzy it is. Is it the pereskiopsis that makes it offset at such a small size, or just a trait of that variety?
Re: Hana's grafting in 2014/2015
The grafting affects on making off-sets.
The stock on the photo is Pereskiopsis but other stocks give also a similar effect on the scion.
The current size of scion is 8 cm in diameter.
I use this effect on kotschoubeyanus and making a multi-headed plant.
The photo is also 1 year old, 7 cm in diameter.
The defrafting of kotschoubeyanus is not difficult.

This is wondefully weird. If it ever gets to the point of blooming, it will be amazing!

A grafted kotschoubeyanus is in flower very early stage.
If you grafted a very young seedling in early spring, it will be in flower in autumn same year.
The age is 7~8 months old.
The kotshoubeyanus on the photo was in flower last autumn.

Wow very cool!
Re: Hana's grafting in 2014/2015
I looked up for the flowers on this thread and they were lovely, but the plant has grown quite a bit since then. Please, show us pictures when it blooms again in the autumn.Hanazono wrote:A grafted kotschoubeyanus is in flower very early stage.

Hana is the reason I am collecting Cacti. I saw a post years ago on another forum. I become obsessed with grafting at that point. I thank you Hanazono, you have given me a special gift.

February is the last month of summer in here.
I completed seedling grafting for this season in the end of January.
I grafted 96 seedlings in this season.
The attached photo is the updated one, grafted scions in 2004.
I will degraft all of them in September this year.
