Lui's Grafting Adventure
Lui's Grafting Adventure
Hello everyone,
Here are some of the grafts im working on. I will try and show the whole process and share some pros/cons of each grafting stock.
This is the first graft. Its a Copiapoa lauii monstrose grafted on pereskiopsis stock. I got this plant from C&D plants in late summer. It arrived healthy but started to shrivel, I assume from rot, so I did an emergency graft. It is looking good so far and is actually putting on some weird growth even though I havent watered it since late October and is inside the house with low light.

thanks! I just started grafting this year. trying different stocks and techniquessnarfie wrote:nice graft!
Here is some progression of a few more.
Gymno baldainum about 1 month or so of growth. copiapoa hypogaea grafted on pilocereus stock, after pill bugs attacked the mother plant melocactus azureus 3 grafts from seedlings the last image you can see how much one has grown 5x times the size of the seeds growing on own root!
you can also see the copiapoa lauii monstrose and a few other grafts and perekiopsis stock looking ratty in winter

Re: Lui's Grafting Adventure
nice graft snarfie,
I think the pads I chose from my christmas cactus were too small. I tried to get fairly new pads, with a smaller pad forming on it.
Did you root your pads in a soil medium? The video said to place them in trays (humid box). I placed them in 100% perlite...a few rotted.

Re: Lui's Grafting Adventure
Lol i also placed them in pure perlite, 100% rooted
Also >90% of grafts were succesfull
However i first sterilized the schlumbergera segment, the scion and the razorblade.

They're looking very healthy, how are your other grafts doing?

Re: Lui's Grafting Adventure
Thanks snarfie.
Here are some updates. I was at a local nursery and came across a bunch of degrafted mammillarias, asked the owner what he was doing with the mytrillocactus stocks and he said I could have them for a 1$ each. So I bought the whole lot, they aren't pretty but they work. Perfect timing when I got a package in the mail with a bunch of new scions.
