The Pereskiopsis stock plant came today. Its old, but it made good stock plant material for I got many cuttings out of it when i went to cut it back. Here it is before chopping:

And here it is after chopping:

The cuttings are leafless so they will take a little more time to root, but they should produce good cuttings. After all, the plant they came from certainly did :)

Also the amount of spines I got in my fingers and subsquently had to pull out during the processes of unpacking the plant and chopping it up actually left a bit of stinging in my fingers even a few hours after doing it XD

I recently took the plunge into hypocotyl grafting; I grafted a Geohintonia mexicana seedling onto a T. pachanoi seedling. I did it yesterday, I checked it today and it looks good :)

I did the sideways push test on the hypocotyl graft and it resisted! :D Horray, possible second successful graft. And since this hypocotyl graft took probably, you better believe I'll be doing more in the future.

The photo was taken on Tuesday. Also I am considering buying some T. pachanoi cuttings to experiment with grafting seedlings onto them, but i'm not sure I want to shell out $20+ for something I was planning to grow anyway by grafting it to Pereskiopsis. Do you think it is worth it?

I checked the hypocotyl graft today and unfortenately it has lifted from one side. I did the sideways pressure test though and it still holds. I'm just going to leave it and if problems arise, ill regraft it.

Also update on the Opuntia graft:

That happened with my T. peruvianus graft, I thought it was a goner but I put it back in its humidity dome and let it be for another week and it turned out fine.

I regrafted the hypocotyl graft, and it failed, probably because it was shifted as it was healing. Also I recieved a $100 dollar American Express gift card for Christmas, and used it to buy this:

But surely the Astro sk graft did not cost $100, 'cos it shouldn't have!

No? It was only $18.00 including shipping. I got it from Cactuslands. I also used the $100 gift card to buy a T. spachianus cutting, 25 Ariocarpus fissuratus seeds, and 25 Harrisia bonpladii seeds from Cactusstore.com.

And according to the USPS tracking the Astro graft should arrive today! :D

Astro graft came today! My mom had the gall to say while I was carrying it out from its repotting, "What's so unique about that?" Maybe if she knew the years of waiting one would have to undergo to get Astros to the size the graft is on their own roots, she wouldn't be saying that ;)

Anyway, pictures!

If you thought having Pereskiopsis, Opuntia, and T. pachanoi in my possession would make me a grafting genie come spring time, in addition to some Lophorphora seeds that just came up in my seedling scion pot, I now have *drum roll*

T. spachianus!

It's still got a bit of healing to do before it's ready to be planted, but this thing will probably grow quite a bit once it roots considering summers in New Jeresy can get up to 100 F :D
