After many months of failed grafts, scouring the internet, asking fellow NZ cactus growers and most of all frustration I have finally succeeded with Pereskiopsis grafting! Pereskiopsis is not very common in new Zealand, but finally I found a grower in Whakatane who was able to supply me with a plant . Initially I tried and failed using one of my many Ariocarpus fissuratus (also hard to find here ) seedlings. I determined my failures were due to a number of reasons,
1, my blade was not sharp enough
2, the seedlings were too small
3, the Pereskiopsis cutting was not tall enough
A trip to the Pharmacy, some patience and a bigger seedling later I tried grafting again. This time with success!
Here's the Lobivia Pentlandii three days after grafting
two and a half weeks later we now have
Seedling Success!
Seedling Success!
Buying a cactus a day will keep the madness away.
Re: Seedling Success!
I, too, had difficulty when I first started grafting. Your success will drive you forwards to do lots more and you will soon become expert at it.
The graft that you have done is actually a very good one, the scion has not lifted at all from the stock.
Well done and welcome to the world of grafters.
