Re: Some of my grafts
Very nice grafts!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.
Re: Some of my grafts
They look great Paul!
Now we just sit back and compare the growth of your ACMs vs. mine on own roots. Going to be interesting to see where they are, a year from now. And who gets flowers first.

Thanks Guys.
Doug, You'll be the first to know if I get flowers! This is just one of 5 grafts too! Plus, I have 3 on their own roots still

Re: Some of my grafts
Here's another Ortegocactus seedling I grafated a couple weeks ago. Already double in size. Also grafted the root end and it took too... no offsets on it yet though. And Doug, another seed germinated! Sorry for being so blurry... Used my phone and cropped close.

Re: Some of my grafts
Nice grafts! I don't wish to alarm you, but that Discocactus horstii, is most certainly not Disco. horstii. A plant of that size would have the very typical spination of D. horstii, as well as the beginnings of a cephalium. Additionally, it'd be darker in colour and flatter.
Re: Some of my grafts
That's still very small. It's just a big picture. It's only about 2cm. Probably a bit small for a cephalium
But you may be correct on it not being D. horstii. The tag fell off and I don't have any other seedlings similar so I was guessing it was D. horstii.
The spines looked a bit thin, but again, it is quite small still. It just started developing it's ribs
Any other ideas on what it may be?

Re: Some of my grafts
Discocacti aren't like Melocacti, they start their cephalia when they're quite small and both the cephalium and body of the plant grows. I'd say a plant of that size would have at least the beginnings of a cephalium. I'll try to get a picture of my grafted D. horstii to compare. As to what else it could be? An Echinopsis or a Matucana or something? It's a fairly unassuming looking plant.paulzie32 wrote:That's still very small. It's just a big picture. It's only about 2cm. Re: Some of my grafts
Maybe so, but I would think more than a few months are needed. Seedlings do not usually (if ever) produce cephalium. Correct? I believe the plant needs to be a couple years old at least.

Re: Some of my grafts
They're so very slow on their own roots that most people don't bother so it's hard to get references, however a 4 year old plant on it's own roots is about 1.5cm (half an inch) in diameter and has the very beginnings of a cephalium. See here:paulzie32 wrote:Maybe so, but I would think more than a few months are needed. Seedlings do not usually (if ever) produce cephalium. Correct? The spination and overall look of the plant is so very distinctive though, you could spot it a mile off. They develop the unique spination (monkey foot-like?) at a very, very early age. I got some pictures of my own plant, but I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow if you're still not convinced.
Re: Some of my grafts
Naah, I already admitted you are probably right on it not being D. horstii. It may be an Echinopsis... but I don't recall sowing any.... I did have some Trichocereus hybrid seeds I received... so maybe it was one of them.

Re: Some of my grafts
This is another (definitive) Discocactus Horstii. Compared to the larger plant above, this is certainly different.
