Seedling graft
Re: Seedling graft
If It is M. plumosa then I managed to not only get a renegade seed in with the pectinifera I ordered from MesaGarden...but also choose it for grafting!
I might end up being sorta unpleasantly surprised, heh.

Re: Seedling graft
Did you cover it at all or put a jar over it? I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but for some reason, none of my grafts have been working! They all seem to turn black or shrivel! I'm being so careful too! Disinfecting everything and even using a loupe to make sure I'm placing the graft correctly!
I wasn't raised a Cactolic but converted to Cactolicism later in life
Re: Seedling graft
I covered the fresh graft with a cup for the first two days and also kept it indoors w/ my seedlings under lights for a few days. I hope you have better luck in the future it is very frustrating when grafts go wrong!
Re: Seedling graft
Yeah... Most of the time I do it to try to save a seedling or a plant that's dying... so I REALLY don't want them to fail! Do you put the cup over it to keep moisture in or to add some weight on top?

Re: Seedling graft
Just to trap moisture, I also often mist the interior surface of the cup. I dont use any weight/pressure when working with seedlings.

Re: Seedling graft
Practice makes perfect. I found that mid-summer grafts are less successful, my best work is in winter/spring/fall. Probably due to lower temps. I don't put a dome over the grafts, but I do water everything else in the propagator and turn off the lights when I'm done grafting so they get a good 14 hours of humidity and moderate temps before the lights come on again.

A pereskiopsis with a ario's tap root? this could get interesting!
Nice (and fluffy) Mamm you have there!

Unfortunately neither of the strombos above took, but this one did!

Very nice!
I have so far been totally unsuccessful grafting with really tiny seedlings like in your strombo pic. letting them grow a few more months,(or in the case of aztekium, a few more years ) before cutting them in half, made all the difference.
