Cactus cuttings

Post by Eli »

I have been given some cuttings of Aporocactus flageliformis, Disocactus and Cleistocactus colademononis.
I have planted them in some gritty compost.
Please can anyone tell me where I should keep them, so that they root ...
In a propagator, on a windowsill or where ?
And also when should I water them ?
Thank you.

Keep them somewhere bright but no too much direct sunlight and keep them dry until roots form. Once the roots start to grow you can water but lightly and carefully at first, don't over water you don't want them to rot. Once they have larger roots then its safe to give full soaks with the water.

Oh and be very patient, I have some cuttings (sulcorebutia rauschii) that have been sat in grit for almost 10 months now and still no roots they are still alive and have grown offsets which continue to grow they just have not yet become thirsty enough to set roots. And try not to be too temped to move them to check for roots that may impede the growth.
