Monadenium ritchei offsets

Today I repotted some baby plants attached to my Monadeneium ritchei. I planted in a sifted blend of perlite, charcoal, pumice and red lava, and top-dressed with red lava. Both plants had some roots attached. I watered mother and child plants afterward. Should I have left them to dry first, or should they be okay?

The leaves have fallen off the offsets, but they aren't showing any signs of rot or anything yet. Fingers crossed!

That's not a problem. Happens with almost any succulent with foliage when they go dormant.
Just keep them in a bit warmer place (around 10C) all winter, and they will start growing leaves again in spring.

The offsets aren't doing so well now. One is rotting and the other one doesn't look so good. I guess watering them right after potting wasn't such a good idea after all!

Un Pot them and cut the rot off then. Let it dry and place in dry medium. I am always snapping pieces off mine and just sticking them in the pot with no adverse affects. But I don't water that often either.

I had a M. guetheri and it was pretty inert for a long time. Lost its leaves and took maybe a month to get some roots. Finally dropping roots. I have read a week for M and E cuttings works well.

I ended up having to throw the offsets away. The main plaint is doing fine, though. Lesson learned!

I think I picked this one up from the cactus show/sale at the Chicago Botanic Garden in 2008. The plant was much smaller then! See here.

That's too bad that the offsets didn't survive! But what a neat plant indeed!
