Rooting hormone for cuttings and seedlings
Rooting hormone for cuttings and seedlings
I have been wondering how many of Y'all use rooting hormone (Indole butyric acid) for rooting cactus and succulent cuttings. I never used before, as I mostly rooted Opuntias. However, recently I have been rooting Epis, Rhisapalis and Stapelia and broke down and bought a bottle. On another aspect, I was thinking of applying a soil drench of IBA to seedlings to promote rooting especially with expensive varigated Astro seeds. Has anyone tried this. Thanks BobbyZ

Never use it on succulents or any softwood cuttings. The only time I've used it is when rooting hardwood cuttings of Juniper and Cedar.

Clonex maybe for cacti, never heard about succulents.

I root all kinds of cacti and succulents, including all of the plants you listed, on a regular basis and have never needed to use it, but it certainly cant hurt.
Forget the dog...Beware of the plants!!!

Some of these have anti-fungal properties, and sometimes I'll apply it to a fresh cut to prevent rot. Otherwise it shouldn't matter.
These hormones aren't really appropriate for seedlings and would be more likely to hurt them than help them.

I have used rooting hormone on Euphorbia cuttings but it doesn't really seem to do much. It still took a long time to root (or I am still waiting for particular cuttings).
