Just have a quick question regarding a new cutting I got the other day, it's Schlumbergera truncata and has 4 segments, 3 branching from 1. I put it in some dry soil to get it to root but within a day or so it had gone really soft and almost fallen over, I'm now supporting it with a couple of toothpicks stuck into the soil so it doesn't get damaged. Is this normal? Because I don't remember my other cuttings doing this as badly, also roughly how long do they normally take to root?
Thanks

Re: Schlumbergera cuttings, advice needed
For my holiday cactus and all other cactus I just lay the cuttings on the rooting medium and make sure they are in contact with the medium. I put a clear cover over them to retain the humidity. The holiday cactus will send roots down from each joint between the segments. I find that they usually send out roots within 2 weeks.
