Daiv's 2012 Outdoor Contribution

Post by daiv »

OK, well to kick of 2012, I've got some pics from Ron's garden. I'm all out of sorts this year so I've already posted some pics in "general".

This specific fragilis is really looking fantastic. I think it is from John P. Wiser if I remember right:

Missed seeing all these masses of flowers open on E. missouriensis

This bumble bee was totally motionless. I think it fell asleep in the flower and it closed around it. I nudged it and it drowsily meandered away.

Dave nice to see your posting.

The fragilis is what they call in the trade 'Little Gray Mound' and it lives up to it's moniker. :)

Nice fragilis clump, Daiv! Got 4 to survive the winter & doing well. Sorry @ missing the missouri. blossoms -- going thru the same thing. Leave for work by 6 & home @ 6:30 -- no open blossoms. Have today off & hopefully will catch a couple :D ! The reichenbachii's (another survivor of The Winter) stayed open, but got deluged by badly needed rain. A few more blossom left in them -- what a breakout event! :D

I guess I don't have that big of an outdoor contribution so far. Here is E. vivipara blooming outdoors:

Loving your outdoor contribution! The Opuntia fragilis is sweet indeed. looks also like O. debreczyi, a controversial taxon.

Opuntias blooming here - this one caught me by surprise and about 8 or so flowers were already done. Fortunately, I got to see two of them. Here is one:

Well this might be all I have for outdoor pics this year. Many of the in-ground plants are done blooming.

This is the only flower I got open on this poly from South Dakota that we call "Titanothere" - this name is fitting because it is not only a huge flowered plant, but we found it among fossil bones from the animal of that name.

Beautiful flower, daiv! It looks somewhat like mine Opuntia phaeacantha. The flowers have a comparable size.

Your C. missouriensis are beautiful.
I have one in the ground that looks decent, and one in a pot that looks like it would rather be in the ground. :P
One of these days Im going to have to get my hands on some of that O. fragilis.
Forget the dog...Beware of the plants!!!
