I have never seen an Opuntia fragilis with such jolting color as that one. It'd stop traffic!

I want this one. Germany isn't that far away. It would only took me 1000 km to get to it. And another 1000 to get home.

That's really strange, you're sowed grass and like mowing. I don't like mowing and remove the grass to have cacti in my yard.

Cylindopuntia imbricata was the last flowers for this season. Now it's time to prepare for the winter rest.
In a couple weeks the plants will get potash fertilizer. Thereof they will finish their growth and stop storing water.
In further process they reduce the stored water to prevent burst by freeze.

What a display! Absolutely gorgeous! Do you have some sort of weed block material underneath the gravel etc.? You've really inspired me. And you have stopped watering already for the winter? Mmmm, I have a couple of Opuntias that I am going to experiment on leaving out this winter though I wasn't too optimistic as to whether they would resist the cold, so I have another couple in pots which I will take in so that if they do succumb I will not have lost all of them. We also get very cold up here in the winter so fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing your beautiful plants with us.

I can't stop watering, because they don't have any rain protection. They will get a rain shelter earliest in October.
If your plants in pots get a rain protection the chance that they survive is somewhat better.
