Very early signs of new growth on some of the Opuntias?

Ray,
It sure is new growth. Amazing! After that crazy winter, it seems "Spring" is trying to make up for it all.

Ah cool, I noticed the first pad coming out of an O. debreczyi today but that's the only one so far. Tomorrow's furnace might start pushing a few more.

So its not just New England getting the early start!

Man what a blowtorch we are having today. Stepping outside is like opening the oven and sticking your head in. Its 90F at Bradley International Image

Same in Westchester Co. today, Andy. And I heard Central Park in NYC set a record today at 90 degrees. Right now it's 91 here by my weather station in the shade; humidity is only 20%. (Earlier, the same station recorded a high of 102, but that was when it was in the sun.) How ironic I posted today that I was envious of the Forum's 'desert folk' enjoying early blooms due to their climate!

Well, Tony, next starting Friday they say it's back to normal for us here--upper 50's, low 60's. That's why we absolutely LOVE the Northeast!

Its not totally unusual to rip off a 90 degree day or two in April. The lack of foliage can really helps things warm up this time of year. Its amazingly dry out there too and we just had 10 inches of rain the second half of March!

Earliest 90F day ever recorded in Boston, Tied for earliest in Hartford but we did edge out the daily record.

funny you guys mention it, its been actually rather cool the past few days, and windy and not very desert like, minus the abundant sunshine!

BTW I would hate to see what would happen to my thermometer if I left it out in the sun. I have heard of mercury ones exploding.

Oh yeah and btw in Phoenix in the summer you really can fry an egg on the sidewalk.

I did take a long walk to day and once the wind died down a little bit I felt like I was being fried by the sun!

As a point of interest (and accuracy), apparently the temperature rose even higher in Central Park later this afternoon. They reported on the 11 o'clock news that the new record for NYC was set today at 92 !

And, to Peterthecactusguy, I've been in Phoenix when it was 118 and humidity of something ridiculous like 12%. But no one there seemed to care: you travel in an A/C car and go immediately into an A/C store or mall.

actually, I have been minus an A/C unit in my car since late Oct and before , I Didn't have one for about 3 years. :)
I also think the A/C is way over done in Phoenix, but that is just an opinion. I am cold most of the time!

Hey Darryl have you seen my Opuntia thread yet?
:)

BTW Ray I think your Opuntia is growing on me every time I see it!
