Tony
It is the fastest growing Cylindropuntia I have.Mine grows upright and if it tries to spread out too widely I trim it. [-X
It dosen't always pay to baby Opuntias. They will take advantage of kind treatment by growing unruley. Some times they need you to crack the whip!!
Teach them who's boss!! :blackeye:
Be careful they do know how to defend themselves.

Here are pictures of Opuntia fragilis flowers from the Dave's, Devils Tower collection. These flowers are of the third and fourth clones The pads were shown in this thread on the 25th. I was surprised again by the pink flowered one. I tend to agree with Andy. I think the first and fourth may well be hybrids.

Flowers from the third clone.

Woot, those frags are sweet John :D .
I tend to agree with Andy on the pink one being a poly/frag.

The day after I found O. Humifusa on the shorline here in CT and saw my first flower in person, mine decided to open its first bloom. To bad my garden is shaded in the afternoon so its mostly closed. Hopefully one bloom will happen to open on weekend. This is only my second hardy plant to flower.

You mean BOTH the yellow and the pink are from Devils Tower?

That rocks! I don't even have the ones I got planted yet. I sure hope I end up with both colors too.

How totally awesome is that!

My mini O. fragilis (pads 1" or less) is putting out a new pad.

Image

Well no big deal there but wait somethings coming out of an exposed root

Image

This is pretty cool cause I wasn't aware of any fragilis that could grow pads right off a root.

Yeah, very cool indeed - I didn't know they did that either!

Never know what I'm going to learn next around here.
