My Echinocereus triglochidiatus, which has flowered off and on for a number of years, produced some kind of strange looking outgrowth from the apex. I assume, that this is the fruit of the plant, but it does look a little odd.
Does anyone on this forum have this cactus in cultivation and if so, would you please tell me, that this is the way its fruit does look?
My other Echinocereus spp. plants, which regularly do produce fruit, do have round to slightly oval fruit, which is surrounded by pretty dense spines, that do come off when rubbed.
My E. triglochidiatus does have spines around that structure, albeit more sparingly. However, what does confuse me are the fat, pointy projections, that arise from the base of the spine-cluster attachments.

Re: Is this normal Growth?
Those red ones look like scales, some flowers and fruits have it. Just wait: if it produces seeds it would be a real fruit.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.
