Amazing private collection

Post by Kamos »

My sister went to a few home garden tours Saturday and sent me these pics of a cacti collection just a few miles away right in the middle of farm land.
I'm hoping to go see this for myself next time! Many of these must be decades in the making.

Suddenly,my own small collection doesn't seem quite so impressive. :D

I had a feeling you might know the owner of this collection, hobbyman! I hope they don't mind me posting pics of it . I had no idea there were cactus collections this large around here.

Where on earth can we find this colection?
It must be somewhere tropical.

Hi Alexander ,
Not tropical , it's in the central San Joaquin valley, California.

It's a Mediterranean climate, Alexander, not a tropical one.

Neal, I can't imagine the owners objecting to you posting pictures - they should be very proud of this collection. Some very impressive specimens there, and all beautifully presented.

Generally, unless negotiated otherwise as in employing a professional photographer, the picture belongs to the photographer. Unless they prohibited photography on their land, and presumably they saw you taking photographs they are yours to post where you like. However you are not allowed to copy and post other peoples pictures you see on the web without their permission, since they automatically have the copyright.

There are some restrictions on publication of course, you cannot publish a picture of somebody that may apparently show them in a derogatory way even if unintentionally. For instance if you took a picture of an identifiable person in the street who was simply passing by a sex or gambling establishment, but in the photograph looked as if they had just come out of it, you could be sued if the person objected. Usually if taken from the street and not on private land most photographs are legal. Unfortunately all law enforcement officers don't know their own countries laws on what is legal photography therefore may try and stop you, something professional photographers often complain about in the photographic press.

If you want to refer to another persons photograph on a forum like this it is always best to link to their site and never copy and publish the picture yourself.
