Minimum temp range for Selenicereus grandiflorus

Post by capot1948 »

The local nursery I deal with is interested in some of my Selenicereus grandiflorus cuttings that I've got started. She's asking of they can stand a minimum temp of 45F? I'm not sure so I thought I'd better ask the experts.

Some of my Selenicereus have been down to freezing in winter if not below, but I don't know about grandiflorus as I think some are more frost tender than others. Also if they have always been grown warm they may need a period to acclimatise. However 45F seems quite warm to me.

This one has stems only about 3ft long and goes down to freezing every year.

Strange to say the chap I got the original cutting from grows Orchids, therefore runs a warm greenhouse over winter, but has never flowered a Selenicereus.

A Cactus of the Month post by Hob, from 2011, says he aims for 5 deg. C for minimum temperature (that's about 40 deg. F) - http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtop ... us#p213509" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thank you for that information. I'll let her know. I repotted mine yesterday into 1gal nursery pots about 5 to a pot. The wooden skewers I'd been using were way too short for most so I had to go to using Orchid spike rods and even in a couple of instances those were too short.
