And the season continues...
...even here in northwestern Vermont, 8 miles from the Canadian border. Some of the flowers are on schedule, others just leave me puzzled. More than any other, I'm excited by the prospect of seeing these blooms on a hybrid Epi. It's never bloomed, so I have no idea what it will look like, but I see shades of deep red and purple in the buds, which are about 4-5" long; the whole flower stalk is about 8-9" long.
My recently acquired Lobivia winteriana/Echinopsis backebergii is sporting its second and third flowers. Also new to my collection is this Mamm. camptotricha/decipiens This will be this Cory. elephantidens' fourth flower in just the last month. There's no stopping this (succulent, not cactus) Haworthia maughanii; it stays outdoors in filtered sunlight all spring & summer, I water it when I think of it and basically otherwise ignore it. I bought it because of the cool look to the foliage; the flowers are insignificant. I counted 15 flower stalks today, but in this picture I think you can only see 12 of them.Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!

And this morning...We had a couple of nights in the low/mid 40s, so I brought the collection into the GH to keep them better protected. I'm also going away for a couple of weeks in October, so I'll be bringing more of the 'tenders' into the house in case there's a real cold snap.
