More often than not I've missed the opportunity to see its flowers at their best. But not this time -- from yesterday, as my daytime high was just 1 degree short of hitting the century mark:

Very nice Steve! I'm curious, do you change your watering in high temperatures?

Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!

Re: Astrophytum asterias in flower
Nope, because my daytime highs during summer don't go above the mid to upper 80s on average. Some local growers have told me that I shouldn't water when the temps are above 95, although that's true only if the overnight lows are over 68 on a regular basis. Not a concern for me, but excessive heat leading to summer dormancy could be more problematic for your part of Caliifornia.Kamos wrote:I'm curious, do you change your watering in high temperatures?
The flowers on my A. asterias look scraggly after a day, so I was really pleased to get those shots yesterday.fanaticactus wrote:That's perfection!
