Beginning my new collection

Post by fanaticactus »

To begin rebuilding my collection, I've started with some fairly basic types. Most of them were Altman cacti purchased at Lowe's. Being of decent size, they fit nicely into 4" pots. The Chamaelobivia hybrid I knew would spread, so it's in a small shallow planter. M. hahniana, Chamaelobivia hybrid 'Rose Quartz' (one of many variations), P. leninghausii

Hi,very nice plants you have there. The one you called R.muscula is actually R.minuscula, maybe just a typo on your part but thought I'd point it out.

Happy growing :)

And why rebuilding, what happened with your collection? I must be missing something here...

And that last plant you showed us above look to me like an Espostoa sp., not Cephalocereus.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

After watering the collection lightly a few times, I did a thorough watering with a systemic in hopes of having a mealie-free season. Apparently, the roots on most of the cacti hadn't become completely functioning after the winter dormancy, and I'd say about 75% rotted.

Thanks for the correction on the Ceph.. I've had so few of them I can't really tell the differences. Most of the 'hairy' ones look alike to me. How does one tell the difference?

Well, I remembered now your case, that was in another topic.

Cephalocereus this size would have less ribs and spines in areole I think.

Man, that's one positive point of living in the great white north (or at least their slightly southern cousin): Mealybugs aren't something we deal with. At least not naturally.
