Biggest Turbinicarpus?

Post by iann »

It's certainly my biggest. That's a four inch pot.

That's a nice one. The biggest I have are two T. viereckii that are about 3" across (one of them is growing a herd of pups and won't grow any larger).

The one on the left of the frame is T. viereckii. It is a self-sown seedling from an older plant, but neither are this big. Mine are stubbornly single, what do I have to do to get a clump?

I'll ask mine. :D

No idea, really. The one that is now known as subsp. neglectus is self fertile and single, but a generic I found by luck on a nursery makes up for the self-infertility by clumping (that's a 9cm square pot).

So I've been reading :) Apparently, T viereckii as originally described is a relatively small-headed and clustering plant. The for that has been very common in Europe is one collected by Lau that almost never offsets and is quite large. This form has recently been given the name ssp neglectus. Here is mine flowering, apparently in October.

Maybe I'll keep mine alive long enough to get that big  Or maybe not. Or maybe I won't live that long

Very nice. The back row T. valdezianus is especially good looking. :)
