This is a wild and out of control Glandulicactus uncinatus var wrightii

It threw a monstrose lump that is now growing out into half a dozen fairly normal-looking headsm if they can only find the room

I think Ian often does what you can all do, grow plants from seed which is freely available in international dealers lists, even if the plants themselves are not available from your local nurseries?

Do you know (by any chance) how many little guys I killed already????? I think it would be much easier to count ones that survived my 'God playing' intents to 'make' a real cactus out of a seed.

You can find seed for almost anything. It is cheap. Best of all I like growing from seed. I think I get better plants from seed than almost anything I could buy.

Also unlike CITES restrictions on international trade in plants, most seed can be freely traded internationally, apart from a few seeds on Appendix 1 of CITES.

If you must have large plants quickly but they are unavailable in your country try grafting very small seedlings soon after germination on Pereskiopsis, putting them later on a more robust stock and eventually de-grafting when large enough, That way you obtain many years growth within a single year.
