This cactus is 3 years old. I bought it small and it grew nicely. However, look at the 2 "branches"on the side, they look completely different from the main cactus! They grew out of the main plant! Straight spines etc! Is that normal??
The plant was labelled Stenocereus hollianus cristata.
Thanks. ( sorry for the lopsided pic! It was straight in my camera)

Re: Weird Stenocereus cactus
Very nice, the two different looking stems are just regression to normal growth. The catus should look like the two new stems but grows in a mutated form to produce the cristata growth. You can pinch of the new stems before the grow to preserve the cristata growth. I think it looks very nice the branching is very symmetrical and tidy.
And as the walls come down and as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade recalling all of the times
I have died and will die.
It's all right.

Thank you! I do think the plant looks very nice the way it is, I don't want to cut the stems off. When you look at the main plant the whole spiral top part is about 7 inches tall and grew this tall since I bought it. The stems grew last year! It's neat looking but odd!
