Even we are in the cold zone there is lot of sunshine on window-sills. These were my blooms in January:
And some more are pending.

If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Re: No cactus in flower.
Might seem strange, but I'm actually further north than Calgary. Not much though, the big problem here is too many clouds. Plus my greenhouse is heavily shaded in winter. At least we're finally through the inescapable humidity that comes in October and lasts until it gets really cold.

I suppose the room you keep them in is heated?
There isn't even a hint of flowers here yet, that Rebutia for one is very early.
That being said, lovely flowers!

With apologies to the late Professor C. D. Darlington the following misquotation springs to
mind ‘cactus taxonomy is the pursuit of the impossible by the incompetent’ - Fearn & Pearcy, Rebutia (1981)

Re: No cactus in flower.
Ian's far in advance of me. The only things coming into flower here are Snowdrops, but that at least means spring is coming!

Re: No cactus in flower.
Thanks, Arjen. Yes, the house is heated almost equally (no separation by rooms or storey), that is the most common case here. Little cooler than inside close to window's glass. If kept winter time at ~10 degr. C, this Rebutia should bloom since April I think. And our climate is different - even days are shorter now, but we have lot of sunshine, the air is clear, humidity is quite low even during the summer time. And the neighbours poplar tree S.W. of my windows is leafless from November till April (= our winter) and this altogether makes many of my cacti happy.Arjen wrote:I suppose the room you keep them in is heated?

Re: No cactus in flower.
The old common Parodia (Notocactus) mammulosus can still put on a show.
As can Parodia (Notocactus) rutilans.
And for a different flower colour Echinocereus viridiflorus.

Re: No cactus in flower.
I have this as Rebutia simoniana.
Rebutia perplexa.
Rebutia fabrisii v. aureiflora.
Mammillaria tezontle (often considered a form of M. crinita)

Nice tenzontles, Dave! They are one of my favourite Mammillarias.
Buying a cactus a day will keep the madness away.
Re: No cactus in flower.
