I was looking on Ebay for some succulents and I came across an unusual plant called 'Ihlenfeldtia vanzyli'.
I then Googled it but can't find any info at all about it. Does any one know if it has changed its name recently or does any one have any info.

Ihlenfeldtia vanzyli
Latin is a dead language thank goodness.
Re: Ihlenfeldtia vanzyli
I've got one and it is a nice little plant. Others may have more expertise with it (I've only had it for a year) but I just treat it like my other winter growing mesembs. I believe the name is correct, it is just that there are a lot of species out there and a lot of them aren't widespread enough in cultivation to get a lot of people writing about them online.

Thanks. I just love these weird looking plants and who knows, this particular plant might become popular.

They sold pretty well for me last year (I sell a lot on eBay). My supplier hasn't had them in a while but I'm hoping this fall he'll have some more. It certainly is one of the more tongue twisting names though!

Grow like a non-sheathing Cheiridopsis, more or less. Leave it dry for the rest of summer. If there is any more summer! They're quite tolerant of a little summer water, but don't get to thinking they need it! Really they need good winter sun. That's obviously not going to happen, but do your best to keep it cool and bright in winter so it doesn't get stressed.

Cute but it sounds like a bit fussy for me. I really like to water. Sue

Even when I'm selling plants at shows to people living here in California winter growers seem like a strange concept. I tell them "when does it rain here?" "when do the plants on our hillsides turn green?" "winter, right?" For most people a lightbulb comes on and it is easier to explain that these plants come from a similar habitat. I can tell some people just don't get it even when they know we go 6 months or more (late spring through fall) without a drop of water most years.iann wrote:Winter growers, different mindset ...oldcat61 wrote:Cute but it sounds like a bit fussy for me.
