ELK

Post by Arjen »

is anyone here going?

I'll be there for the first time, it would be funny to meet some cactiguide folks there!
With apologies to the late Professor C. D. Darlington the following misquotation springs to

I am sorry, maybe It's because I have had a few beers, but I was thinking of the animal much like a large deer. What is ELK?

ELK is one of the biggest cactus-realted events in europe, held in (IIRC) Blankenberge, Belgium.
Not for me this year, but I'll make it sooner or later...

In the USA an Elk is the animal in Sharpy's picture. What Europeans call an Elk, we in the US call a Moose. I have no idea why this is, but we still use miles, feet, and inches, so maybe it is in our blood to be contrary!

That's what I was getting at in my post.

Ironically I've been to one of the other ones several times, Burma. It was funny that the researchers I was working with were trying hard to convert imperial units to metric ones and I'd have to remind them I'm American so they should just go ahead and talk to me in our shared "native" measurement system!

LoL, I was joking, slightly. I was asking what ELK was and still picturing an elk. I figured it was something to do with cactus tho. ;)

And yeah I had had a few beers when I wrote that so it was a little awkwardly written.

Heh, don't worry about it. I didn't see that it was you that wrote it. I thought one of the Europeans wrote it and was confused by the difference between what we call an Elk and what they do.
