I forgot to check for replies before I left last friday  ... and missed an interesting discussion about what an elk is...
we have no elks here, they live more to the north in scandinavia, we do have the occasional deer

too bad no one here attended, it would have been great to see some people from here in real life!
anyway, I had a blast! the ELK has the largest plant sale of europe, no antlers, plenty of spines
also, there were some interesting lectures, I attended two of them: cacti of peru by guillermo rivera and kleine chilenen (little chileans) by ricardo keim

pictures of my new plants tomorrow ;)

Very cool! Expanding your collection of the 'Weingartia' section of Weingartia?

It's been more than 15 years since I've been to an ELK. There are some nice enough sales events around here too but nothing quite as large and eclectic as ELK. Ah the good old times... :D

Nice! Getting quite the weingartia collection there!
Looks like a few grafted pieces there too, tender plants or just for growth?

Hi Arjen, so you found the sales stand of Herbert Thiele (HTH) too, didn´t you? Did you buy chilean Thelocephala seeds from Schaub and Keim too?
It is too bad we didn´t meet in person there!
Here is what I brought home

Expanding your collection of the 'Weingartia' section of Weingartia?
haha, yes, always!
did you take a plane to visit the ELK or did you use to live in europe?
tender plants or just for growth?
apparently just for growth and for commercial reasons, salespeople sometimes do that... I'm in doubt if I'm going to degraft them
but I can think about that until next spring
Did you see the Sulcorebutia inesperata?
 no I did not! if I had I would surely have bought it! where did you see it?
and you were also there? next year we should have a cactiguide meeting point or something like that
so you found the sales stand of Herbert Thiele (HTH) too, didn´t you? Did you buy chilean Thelocephala seeds from Schaub and Keim too?
It is too bad we didn´t meet in person there!
oh yes, I have spent a lot of time there! Wiebe Bosma was behind him, it was Weingartia paradise :D I didn't buy any seeds, instead I chose to buy two buckets of bims. I did however attend the lecture by Keim, which isn't his strong point unfortunately...
indeed too bad we didn't meet, I intent to next year, if you are going
you also have a great haul of plants, what exactly are they?
Good stuff you guys. Some really nicely grown plants you brought home. I look forward to seeing them in your future posts as they grow and flower for you!
thanks! me too!

Many years ago I want to go to ELK  .
I'm afraid I can not go during the crisis.
Regarding the Sulcorebutia insperata, Roland Müller published an article in the German magazine.
In Sulcopassion's a picture.

Nice to hear discussions about "bagging" an ELK that doesn't require a .30-.30!
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Yup, 223 is enough if you know where to send it ;)
I'm forever on the grandkids hate list as I turned rudolph into a hood ornament back in 1996, truck vs. raindeer can only end one way!
