I think if they lumped any more of these into E. engelmanii, Peter would have a heart attack!
There are only really three Echinocereus species in Arizona, but don't tell anyone ;)

Ah, *except* for the Echinocereus chloranthus forum member Preston found near Safford....so that makes 4.

Given the variability this population is likely some sort of hybrid swarm. Or the local distinct form that is geting desolved back into the main pool.

Oh and what is Cave Creek for the picture taken locality?
Fish Creek is the well-known place for who looks for this plant, do not know what is the closest place people live there.

Whoops! Cave Creek is an area north of Phoenix - I slipped on that one. Will get that corrected pronto.
