Melocactus Bellavistensis semi-nudus

Melocactus peruvianus 6 months old. Not the best picture and you already have a photo of a smallish one.

Nice Melocactus. Did you start them as seeds?

Thanks,

Only the peruvianus are mine from seed, the other two I've had for a year.

The semi-nudus is weird, when I got it, it had 'normal' spines, and then grew all the pathetic ones you can see now. I saw another for sale last weekend, a fair bit bigger than this one, and again, it only had normal spines.

You may remember I pm'd you a while ago about growing a heap of melocactus and taking photos, the seeds for that have been going into pots for the last couple of days. 11 different varieties so far, and I think at least another 10-15 to go.

Quite a few echinocereus as well, so I'll try to get some photos of them to you as they grow.

Ah yes, I do remember. The more Melocactus experience the better!

I've been growing Melocactus from seed for about 2 years now, I have about 30 of 35 distinct species, and then about 20 more subspecies growing from seed. Alas I recently moved house and they're all currently staying at my parents until I get my new greenhouse, but when I do I can provide photographs of seedlings for many species, and also for every Micranthocereus and Arrojadoa providing none have suffered too badly without my care for the last 6 months.

Hey that's great. When it comes to Melocactus, I think we all could use help on those buggers. Your observations will be most welcome!
