Germination Help! To cover or uncover

Post by colesummers123 »

I recently ordered a bunch of seeds from cactusstore.com and many of my 8in pots that I sowed them in are starting to produce cactus seedlings! So after germination do I keep the cling film on the containers, lift them slightly or remove them completely. I dont want problems with mold or root rot but at the same time I don't want any of the vulnerable roots and their root hairs to dry out and get damaged. Thanks all!

Keep it on for now. Once the seedlings get to be a bit bigger then you can slowly start to remove it, say about pea-sized or so.

Many people raise cacti in sterilised compost and keep the pots compleletely covered for weeks or months.
Small pots (2" square are popular) work well, or small sealable plastic containers with a transparent lid, as most cactus seedlings are tiny for the first few months.
