Re: Escobaria minima
Cactus seedlings grow slowly, especially the species I can see in your pots. I have 10-year-old Escobaria minima barely an inch tall.

Re: Escobaria minima
The climate change will help us for sure. My seedlings are smaller but older, don't worry.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.
°C = (°F - 32)/1.8

Re: Escobaria minima
I have to resist watering my cactus seedlings too much even after a hot Santa Ana wind event , the weather can turn cool in the spring in California and I'll get rot.
10 years is probably about right to wait for flowers for many of the small Mexican cactus I like to grow from seed. Ariocarpus fissuratus even longer I think.

Re: Escobaria minima
I can really see these cactus better with a digital pic than through a eye loupe. so lets see what have I done with this mixed pot? echinocactus horizonthaloius green "larger" ones with sparse spines, epithelantha bokeii small ones with white tiny spines, green ones with long spines are ,echinocereus pectinatus v wenigeri. now 2 others - tall columns- neat small spines- I guess are mammillaria pectinifera and the denser spinned ( is this a real word? ) ones are echinomastus mariposensis. I can see the right side of the pot took the main fungal attack, much sparser , this thing was packed.
lots of rare cactus seeds from my collection all put in a pot not really expected much to grow , they usually don't. That explains the confusion and random carelessness of this sowing. I did another organized pot all echinocactus seeds and maybe 4 sprouted..
This pot did get rot and I almost lost all the cactus so I expect it was much wetter than usual ? I was getting exceptional germination. Hydrogen peroxide was used and much drier conditions to save whats left in it. I don't microwave the soil.
This is fun I think I'll do anther mixed pot Against all advice not to sow different species in one pot I think you can get away with it if they are all kinda the same in requirements. Like all slow growers that rot easy.

Re: Escobaria minima
The tall ones with white spines don't look much like M. pectinifera. Look at the spines, very similar to E. bokei. More M. albiflora?
Maybe the little tiny one at the back is M. pectinifera?

Starting some more seeds all collected from my own plants. a couple mixed pots a couple single species pots. I have a pot of mammillaria sanchez-mejoradae seeds I hope grow because I lost one of 2 plants to rot.

Re: Escobaria minima
mammillaria sanchez-mejoradae seeds are the only ones growing. All other pots nothing. Werid as the mammillaria is the pot I watered with 3% H2O2 and it made quite a bubbling mess.
Looks like 100% germination also.

Re: Escobaria minima
And here's some seeds that needed no bottom heat, no baggie, didn't even bury them just threw them in the pot with the boojum tree and left it outside.

Re: Escobaria minima
Winter time 2015 lost some seedlings in the mixed pot but it looks like all the Escobaria minima are still alive. Seedling Mammillaria sanchez mejodra from this year this was the only pot that had decent germination all my other pots are sporadic with few plants.

Re: Escobaria minima
These are doing well a couple years old. The ario are 3 years old with a M herrerea mixed with a M. albiflora seedling in there. A few years ago I crossed them when only one albiflora plant flowered.
Next year all my albiflora plants flowered and I have a nice pot of seedlings of pure albiflora which are nicely spaced which I usually don't manage to do. Camera can't handle this bright Winter light too well pictures look all washed out.

Re: Escobaria minima
Had to build a new bench to make room for all these seedlings when I move them to bigger pots.

your seedlings are outstanding. Nice bench, too.
