This plant was a gift and I have no idea what it is. Can you help me out? :D

I would guess Aechmea. A member of the bromeliad family. Wants the exact opposite of what you would do for a cactus, up to and including occasional standing water in the "cups" at the base of the leaves. I'd also guess that it wants bright light but no direct sun, and I know it likes humid conditions.

It is a nice plant! Tropiflora.com has many bromeliads for sale, with fairly decent descriptions of many plants and origins. Might be worth a look if you are interested in other broms and how to care for them.

Thanks for the info. I google image and found Aechmea gamosepala. Looks likes the correct one. :D
