Because of the size and configuration of the planting - only way to water these is with the rain.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

Daiv,
btw while AZ has a few members of the Quercus family, almost none of them grow down here. There are two that are growing ironically enough next to the freeway. They change color every year to a brilliant orange, at least the branches with leaves on them anyways. I believe the are Q. gambelli.

They are common up north where I go camping (or used to anyways, I havent gone in years!
