those love birds are cute. I find it interesting that so many different birds like to nest in cactus and perch on top of them. :)

hey, is that in the region this time of year? Seems unusual if so. I thought they only came up that far when it was warmer?

Great photo!

I can't claim credit for the image. My co-worker took the picture.

I thought this was interesting--the Audobon Desert Nature Guide indicates the crested caracara is the "Mexican eagle" depicted on the Mexican flag :-k .

Awesome! I saw several of these down in Baja - I think they are much more common there and in AZ it is a rare treat!

Just back from a mini holiday up in wine country, not many chances to bring out the camera though as it rained most of the time. Had torrential amounts of rain while driving home yesterday, you know it's bad when you have to crawl along at 50km/h on the freeway and still have problems seeing lanes and other cars. Saw atleast 5 near crashes from cars changing lanes into the path of other traffic, cound have something to do with a majority of dumb drivers here not turning their headlights on even in pouring rain ](*,) Kinda hard to see a grey car with no lights in your rear view mirror through all the spray thrown up by other cars.

Did capture a few local birds from the room during lulls in the rain.

Regular aussie magpie, harmless at this time of year but a real pain during nesting season.

Yup, local Australian bunny with an attitude!
Rabbits on the other hand is a pest down here and should be exterminated, not that there's a chance doing so with the way they breed!

awesome bird! Looks vaguely related to some shore birds one sees in coastal areas.

Re: the caracara: there has been a 300% increase in sightings of the bird as far north as Tucson in the past 5 years, according to a bird watching friend of mine.

Yes, they are a really bizzare bird. I've never seen one so close before and so calm. I was sitting in the truck, not more than 10 feet away with the window down. It didn't care at all.
