Came out one morning and found a killdeer nesting on my lawn. She had three eggs, so I tried to add some protection, but in two days the eggs were gone. There are a few wild cats in the neighborhood. Most of the time they nest in rocks or dry dirt areas. Odd to pick the lawn.

that is odd. Around here in AZ they nest in the dry areas of the Agua Fria River. (with you guessed it rocks)
Back east in PA they nested in rocks on the roof of my high school AND they also every year nested in the parking lot of a the county hospital. Every year they would rope off areas of the lot where the nests were to keep them safe, (they had these weird rocks/cement things between the spaces) but I never saw them with nest in the grass.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Been a while since we've added any new bird pics, so I thought I'd include these. Nothing too unusual here:

I never should have been shown that live cam.

That is something I would sit watching for 19 hours (minimum) per day. :/

Besides, there are BABY EAGLES!!!

Want another eagle cam to watch? http://www.wvec.com/eaglecam. You can't see anything today because it is raining and windy here but there is usually something. Those eagles have been at that nest since '03 and have had like 19 eaglets over the years.

Ha! My dad got addicted to the cam too.

Speaking of Eagles - I had the pleasure of seeing two immature Golden Eagles fly over me yesterday. Extremely rare in this area - I may have seen them one other time in my life - maybe. We heard the call first - which sounded like some little ankle-biter dog yipping. It got closer and then over the trees a pair of almost all black monsters with a few white spots cleared the trees. So cool.

Looked just like this picture from "all about birds":

Came across this flock of vultures last Saturday that I thought you all might like to see.
They were so far away I had to use the digital zoom on the point and shoot so the pix are blurry. As soon as I got close enough to get decent images they flew away.

Cool pics Tony. I think if it is Vultures, however, there must be some crazy name for a group of them rather than "flock". I think it is something like: A council of Vultures.

Apparently there are a bunch of collective nouns for a group of vultures. Colony, cast, meal, committee, venue and kettle are some I found on the magical internet.

A few more bird shots... Click to enlarge

4 immature Bald Eagles were flying above the river. Lighting was really bad, but just to give an idea here are two pics:

couple more birds to see:

Very difficult to get a picture of this highly active Redstart - so the pics are not that clear

Mentioned in the other thread, but here you can see the adult Long-Eared Owl on the nest - again pic is a bit blurry as I tried not to disturb it.

I'm not a bird lover where I'll go to extreme to get the picture or just observe. But I do have, I believe a Northern Mockingbird who calls my property home. It's hard to say but I think this guy has been calling my home his home for about 4 years. Trust me, I know his calls. I have counted 7 in his singing. And right now it is day and night :!: :!: :!: :!: His favorite spot during the early morning is a top of my century plant that has flowered. Approximately 30 feet tall he has the view of his turf. And at night, of course, the tree in my backyard next to my bedroom. I guess I will miss his singing after he finds his mate, but at 2:00am when you are trying to sleep, he could put his interest in females aside and let me sleep. [-X [-X

Don't have the skills or the equipment to get these guys, but we can't leave them out either.
