Large Prickly Pear in Dallas

Post by Tom Roach »

We've a large yellow blooming prickly pear up for grabs.
I'd take it myself, but it is so big and we just don't have a place for it.

The styrofoam deal my Mom planted it in is about over 2 foot across so this thing spreads a good 4 feet.

PM me if interested…

Yup, not much interest for this...
Prickly pear can be something of a nuisance down here in Texas.
Some friends have a ranch southwest of DFW and gathered up this of a pile of prickly pear.

I think we only have a handful of members in the Dallas area to begin with, but you are correct that most prickly pear aren't that desirable to grow in people's yards (or are so easy to get anyone that wants one has one). That's not to say I don't appreciate them. There is a different species of Opuntia that grows all over the hills near where I live in Southern California. I like seeing them in nature but I'm not putting it in my own yard.
