Once again it tried to flower but won't open all the way. What's it take to open these up? more heat? It was 80F (27C) today

I've had the best displays at over 100F, but they can open up just fine at 90F. Also you need good timing, very often by the time they are fully open they start to close already.

Hmmm,I was thinking that it might have been more open before I got home. It closed shortly after I took the picture thanks to a large cloud.

it's not always the sun that opens them (but sure that helps),but I noticed this summer a few times that they open on a cloudy but bloody hot tropical day. Warmth and a high humidity does work for these plants.

I have a plant that is over 23 years old. It seems to bloom and make seed every year. This plant's blooms only open up fully on sunny clear days between ~1:30 and 4:30/5:00. A very narrow window of time. If you were only seeing the plant at random times outside of this you would never even be able to guess the petal color. Sneaky bloomer or just shy?

I spotted a flower today. Very little sun and barely reached 30C, although the flower wasn't quite fully open.

Beautiful pictures, guys. I know this is an old thread but still very informative. I'm waiting for mine to bloom. Took this picture last night.
I've left it outside this morning to get some "heat".
