My First Big Flower!

Post by Kattatonic »

Not sure of the name for this succulent, but i call it my "Fuzzy Fingers."
I left it at a friend's house while i was moving for a few weeks, and came back to a huge bud. After moving the plant down south, i was worried the climate change would shock the bud and it would die.
Fortunately, and credit to my own developing green thumb, i watched the bud as the seams began to stretch.
After a few days of looking like it was ready to pop, i was greeting on a Sunday morning with this spectacular flower!

If any one has ID information on this succulent, i'd love to learn more.

I go along with Toe's ID. I have had one of these for quite a few years now, I always refer to mine as my "stinky plant" due to the rotting smell emitted by the flowers. I'm fortunate in that I can't smell it, but the flies definitely can and they normally arrive in drones to deposit their eggs inside the flowers before they up around them. Don't like very cold temps, and be careful not to over-water, almost my lost my large mature plant this year. Mine is also putting buds, and shouldn't be long before they open. They always amaze me in spite of the flies!

I'm glad i didn't smell the flower on the first day it opened, i can only imagine the stink it was making. Even admiring it up close i wasn't bothered by the smell, thank goodness because i want there to be no reason to not love this spectacular plant.
I have another large bud that i anticipate blooming in the next few weeks.
