I thought Echeveria was mostly "squat" or low growing, but after I repotted from a root bound very small plastic pot after I purchased it, it started growing vertically like pictured. The container is pretty shallow. Did I give it too much room? It gets even sunlight each day. Thanks in advance!
Is this normal for an Echeveria? what am I doing wrong?

It needs more light.

Echiveria needs 100% full sun to not etiolate.

Thank you. Probably not the right plant for my window direction. Can I prune the piece off?

Or you can just leave it and put it in full sun. I have an E. elegans that, from the back looks like crap, but from the front (the sun side) looks awesome.

Cooler nights outdoors will also help to keep it compact.
The very top growth looks better, so the etiolation might have happened over winter.
If you chop the top off then it should form a clump quite quickly. There are a few that won't, but I think this one will. You should be able to root the top also. You can even root single Echeveria leaves although species like this with thin leaves can be difficult.

If you put it right in the window, close to the glass, it will get a lot more light than if it's even just a little way away from the glass.
