Mites or corking?

Post by kristi88 »

I've had this cactus for a few years and just noticed the discoloration in the last few months. It seems healthy otherwise, and haven't found any bugs on it so I'm hoping it's just corking. Pretty sure the fine hairs are rabbit fur (we have 2 lionheads).

Looks like mites. Corking appear just at the base or with very old stems. Zoom in to see the beasts.

Dry home atmosphere is mite-friendly.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

I zoomed in, but I couldn't see any mites. This is the sort of damage they produce, although it looks like fairly old damage.
