Dudleya growing season
These Winter growers always start to look so much better after the summer is over. I think this is Dudleya caespitosa .

Re: Dudleya growing season
Dudleya lanceolata these really go dormant in the Summer, they get all dried up unless they are in complete shade. I Planted them on the east side of the house looks like I will get flowers.

Re: Dudleya growing season
D. lanceolata can hang on in there in an English summer. They go nice and white with the sun, but don't get completely fried off. This is October when they had fattened up and started to flower.

Re: Dudleya growing season
Different populations of dudleya vary considerably in how much white powder they have. On one hillside or cove they may be bright green, but 10 miles away they may all be powdery. Those traits are saved when they're placed together, so I think it's genetic variation more than environmental - though strong sun does encourage more powder in the powder-inclined ones.

Our local population of D. lanceolata
Newport Back Bay.
I see them every time I do my weekly around the Back Bay bicycle road ride
We are having a brutal drought for the last couple years, so they are a little less active than usual for this time of year
I'm sure they will flower later this year, no matter if we get any more rain or not Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum seedlings growing abundantly in the same vegetation bare areas on the cliffs
